Frequently asked questions.

Is tele-therapy equivalent to person therapy?

Telehealth appointments allow you to have access to quality mental health care from the comfort, privacy, and safety of your own space. Virtual sessions are held via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform to uphold standards of privacy. Choosing telehealth eliminates travel time to and from appointments, and allows for more flexibility in scheduling.

Do you accept my insurance?

While I do not work directly with insurance companies, I am happy to provide you with a receipt for services (called a superbill) which you can use to file for out of network reimbursement through your insurance provider. I do encourage you to confirm with your insurance ahead of time if you plan to file out of network.

I can also offer income-based sliding scale rates for a limited number of clients (just ask!).

Does going to therapy mean there is something wrong with me?

No. People use mental health services for many reasons. Often people seek the help of a therapist when they are interested in personal growth, feeling sad, lonely, or depressed, want to learn skills to better adjust to their environment, or for help dealing with challenging relationships. None of these reasons indicate that something is wrong. Rather, they suggest that (spoiler alert!) you are human, and human beings are by nature imperfect. We thrive in community and sometimes we simply need a little help and guidance.

Isn’t it better if I solve my own problems?

A therapist will not solve your problems for you. Before beginning therapy, consider if you are willing to do the work required to make real change in the areas of your life that need it most. A therapist can provide support and guidance while helping you to identify patterns and gather insight and self-awareness. The goal of therapy is to help you to become self-sufficient, not dependent!

What is Walk & Talk therapy?

We all know that getting outside in the fresh air and moving our bodies is good for us, but sometimes it can be challenging to find the time and space for this simple joy. Walk and Talk therapy is exactly the same at traditional therapy, except that it takes place outdoors! If walking through beautiful trails or along the beach during your therapy session sounds appealing to you, inquire about Walk & Talk sessions. *Available in Gig Harbor and Tacoma, Washington

What the heck is a Prenatal/Postpartum Couples Intensive Workshop?

Preparing for a new baby can be, well…terrifying. Whether you are a first, second, or third time parent, the fourth trimester can be a doozy. There are many resources that help prepare you for labor and the birth of your baby, but then what? Many parents find themselves feeling overwhelmed and unprepared for what comes after you bring your baby home. In this couples intensive, your therapist can meet you in your own home (residents of Washington) or virtually (residents of Washington or Texas).

Over the course of 3-8 hours (either one or two days) you and your partner will:

  1. develop an all encompassing, personalized postpartum support plan

  2. learn skills for managing conflict and challenges that arise postpartum

  3. practice effective communication skills

  4. address fears and concerns

  5. increase confidence around parenting and partnership

If you are preparing for the birth of your baby, or are already in the throws of parenthood and need some extra support, reach out to schedule a consultation and learn about pricing for your specific needs.

Would I benefit from a professional consultation?

Are you a mom and a therapist trying to find balance? Do you often find yourself feeling overwhelmed or that you are not doing enough for your child(ren) or your clients? Do you struggle with feelings of burnout? If this is you, reach out to inquire about a professional consultation. Yes, it’s hard. But it doesn’t have to be this hard.
